ACT MUM-14
MUM-14 is also one of the lightest night vision monoculars on the market. Developed as an alternative to the US Military issue AN/PVS-14, these units offer extreme operational performance and are waterproof down to 20m.
Upheld to MIL-STD-810G standards
Small and Versatile, the MUM-14 gives you a high-performing system in the smallest, toughest package available.
MUM14 weights 35% less than PVS-14
MUM-14 optics were specifically designed for White Phosphor night-vision image intensifier tubes (IIT), while standard PVS-14 optics were manufactured to work the best with Green Phosphor IITs.
We feel as the MUM-14 is out-marketed by the PVS-14 just because “the PVS-14 has been in more movies” and has thus gained more popularity in the commercial market because people know to look for it.
On the other hand, the MUM-14 was designed later than PVS-14 with improvements in mind to outcompete the PVS-14 on government tenders. As more and more military units and governments started transitioning to white phosphor image intensifiers, the optics package designed for the MUM-14 was made especially for P45 white phosphor, which is utilized in most image intensifiers available today.
As the PVS-14 optics were originally made for green phosphor IITs they suffer a slight drop in light throughput when paired with white phosphor tubes (IITs). The optics quality of the MUM-14 has always been the most highly regarded aspect of the system. Another interesting thing that the MUM-14 got going for itself is, that it can support multiple types of batteries. The ability to use both regular AAs and also CR123 batteries can come handy in a lot of situations.
This does not put the MUM-14 way ahead of its similar counterparts, but it still secures the MUM-14 an honorable place amongst the most reliable devices, thanks to its ruggedness, ergonomic design, good optics and a really fair price-to-performance ratio.

Mounting
The MUM-14 uses Mini-Rail as its mounting interface unlike the PVS-14 which has a screw hole in its housing.
This means that the MUM-14 is not comaptiable with regular J-arms. The upside is, that with certain helmet mounts you do not require a J-arm at all and can attach the device directly to your helmet mount or bridge.
This saves weight and makes the setup more rugged.
If one still wishes to use a J-arm then a Mini-Rail bayonet J-arm is included in the package that is compatibale with the Norotos Rhino mount.
As the Mini-Rail has more touch points on its mounting surface, its considered to be one of the securest mounting interfaces with the least amount of wobble.
MUM-14 – Included Helmet Mount, no J-arm
MUM-14 – Included Mini-Rail Bayonet J-arm + Norotos Rhino Mount (not included)
2x MUM-14s Bridged With Mini-Rail Clip-in Adapters
MUM-14 and RH25/PFN640 Thermal Bridged
Conclusion
Taking into account that the MUM-14 comes out of the package with a helmet mount included and is better than the standard PVS-14 in almost all aspects makes it a viable option for users who are looking for the most raw performance out of their device.
