Most push-to-talks are married to one radio and one headset standard. Estonian reservists could not find one that did everything they needed, so they built it: works with both NATO and Peltor wired hearing protection out of the box, switches to any of 1200+ radios by changing only the downlead cable, and pairs over Bluetooth for Zello, ATAK voice and calls past radio range. A year in the making, field-tested before it shipped.

FAQ

I can hear but I can't transmit. What's wrong?

Most likely a wiring mismatch. Active hearing protection comes in two wiring standards, NATO and Peltor, and they look identical from the outside. If the PTT is set for one and your headset is the other, you hear audio but the mic will not transmit. The FC-PTT supports both standards, so check the A-B wiring switch first.

My hearing protection has no boom mic. Can I still use it?

Yes. The PTT has a built-in electret mic. Use the 3.5mm AUX Comms Adapter for Sordin, Howard Leight and anything with a 3.5mm jack, or the Peltor 2-pin adapter for Peltor SportTac and ProTac. Quick test: a round socket needs the 3.5mm adapter, a small 2-pin socket needs the Peltor adapter.

Do I need a battery?

Only for Bluetooth. Radio comms, the onboard mic and the switches all work with no battery. Add a CR123A lithium battery for Zello, ATAK voice, calls and media.

How long does the battery last?

About 85 hours of constant audio playback with Bluetooth in use; longer on standby.

Is it waterproof?

It is rated IP65 and all electronics are covered with a waterproof coating. If water gets into the ports, pour it out, dry the PTT, and it keeps working.

What plug does the headset side take?

The standard Nexus TP-120 (U-174/U) plug, and also the Nexus J-11 plug.

People say I'm too quiet on the radio.

Plug the amplification adapter (included in the box) between your hearing protection and the PTT. Some headsets use dynamic mics that produce a weaker signal, and the adapter boosts it.

Does it work with Comtacs?

Yes, all Comtac variants, NATO or Peltor wired. A Comtac XPI that already has a Nexus comms downlead plugs straight in.

Does it work with Earmor?

If the Earmor has a Nexus downlead it should be compatible; set the A-B switch to match its wiring. An Earmor without a downlead uses the onboard mic plus the right adapter.

Can I swap cables in the field?

Yes, with no tools. Carry a second cable and switch on the spot.

My radio is on the back of my plate carrier. Is the cable long enough?

Standard cables are 50 cm. Add the extension cable for 100 cm total; it goes between the PTT and the radio downlead and works with all cable types.

Is this dual-comm?

Single-comm on the radio side, with Bluetooth as a secondary channel. Running two radios at once is only possible with the separate Dual-Comm Adapter, which needs two PTTs and mixes both radios into mono.
